Culture & Philosophy |
What makes any workplace
a great place to be in?
Workplaces function effectively when the environment is vibrant & dynamic, when
the spirit of its people is supportive & positive. Good quality working
relationships is the foundation on which great workplaces are built. Great
workplaces possess higher retention, better customer satisfaction, higher
productivity & higher profits too. A great workplace which has satisfied
employees & satisfying productivity. Managers at such workplaces make sure that
their people know what is expected of them. They know the importance of setting
clear-cut goals for the teams as well as the individuals. They guide different
people with different styles towards optimum efficiency. Acting merely as
mentors and guides, they let each employee find their own route to success and
encourage employees to take up total responsibility for their actions.
A can-do attitude among employees can be infectious, influencing every activity
positively. Mistakes are viewed as a learning opportunity rather than as a
catastrophe. People deal with each other in an open manner and acknowledge and
respect their differences. This positive energy then becomes a part of the work
culture.
Recognition & appreciation are the necessary building blocks for keeping a team
motivated. Employees desperately wish to know that their accomplishments mean
something very special to the organization. It is important for an employee to
know that he is not being ignored.
Most employees rate a workplace by the quality of the relationships they share
with their seniors & managers. Good managers genuinely care about their people.
Remember that when employees leave, it is not the organization that they are
leaving but bad managers. Good managers make great workplaces.
Good workplaces foster growth and nourish an individual’s need for learning and
development; it should reinforce and promote learning. Workplaces should
encourage employee ideas to flow, to be heard, processed & refined on a
continuous basis. Employees should always want to find a better and more
efficient way to work and not be content to rest on past laurels.
The best workplaces give their employees a sense of belonging, encouraging them
to make a difference. The three most important features that keep the workplace
morale high in masibus are:
• The relationship between the employees and the management.
• The relationship between the employees and their work.
• The relationship amongst the employees.
Great workplaces keep changing their strategies, but not their values. A crisis
fosters better team bonding and sense of purpose at the workplace.
There is something very special about masibus; from a 2000 rupees start up company in 1975 to a 30 Cr company in 2010, Masibus has come a very long way in 35 years. In these three decades, Masibus has been very fortunate to have a
workforce who has spent a decade or two in its services. They have been part of
the development process – they have grown from strength to strength, while their
contributions & commitments are taking the organization to new heights of
technology & professional growth.
Masibus today is a big family of nearly 200 people. Masibus believes that
while every other thing can be duplicated under the sun, what is very unique &
exceptional is the human resources that continue to contribute & convert this
organization into an institution & this workplace into a place of worship.
We have a wonderful mix of people; one set of people who have grown with us over
the years, climbed the ladder of their career steadily, risen to positions
higher & higher, taken up huge responsibilities over their shoulders & given
their unconditional support; to these people masibus is their second home & all
of us here are their extended family.
We take great pride in each & every human resource who has chosen to be here
with us today. What do they see so special & unique about it that they have come
to make a career with us? We would love to hear them say it themselves, straight
from their hearts.
Here’s what they have to say...
Mr. Dominic Cordeiro – Technical Director
I joined Masibus in 1980 and have just completed 25 years. From a turnover of 4
Lacs to 2000 Lacs, from a single product to 50+ products, from a single customer
to 5000+ customers, from a single dealer to 30+ dealers, from no Area Office to
10 Area Offices, from products to projects, from no principals to some of the
worlds leading principals, I have seen it all happen and been a part of the
happening.
To me being in Masibus has been a steady personal growth, from sales and service
engineer to Technical Director. Along the way I have been fortunate to work with
some wonderful people starting with Subi and his wife, colleagues, associates
and juniors, from whom I have learnt a lot and in my own humble way helped shape
many a careers.
I have enjoyed working at Masibus and am proud to be a part of the company’s
achievements. Over the years we have built an excellent work culture at Masibus,
a culture which encourages believing in values, integrity and professionalism.
It is this culture which helps us attract and retain talent more than any thing
else.
Though we have achieved many first’s and delivered some world class products and
solutions, as a company I believe we have been under performing compared to the
potential, and that I believe is going to be the challenge in the future, to
deliver to our potential.
Mr.Sohrab Davar – Executive Director
MASIBUS was born in 1975, but I have known the IBUS (Subi) component since 1963
and MAS (Sam) component since 1967. Subi was my classmate in school while Sam
was my colleague at college. While doing lucrative yet routine jobs with Tata
Power and SCECO, Saudi Arabia I had all along kept an eye on my friends'
progress. Sam and Varunesh (the 3rd partner) dropped out of the partnership and
Subi continued with single mined determination and excellent support from
Dominic and Vidya.
Masibus is already known for good quality products and the 15% to 20%
year-on-year growth for the past 10 years. For 7 of the 10 years, most other
companies had recorded a negative growth! I would therefore like to share with
you growth in other areas, which do not meet the eye so easily.
In 1995, when I joined the company, the thing I liked best was the family
feeling. The turnover was hardly 2.5 Crores but each person thought of Masibus
as his own company. The staff strength at that time was just about 50 persons
and the company image was that of a small company.
It was in 1998 that the company was given a new image with advertisements in IPF
& Magic Cards, extensive participation in exhibitions and the launch of a
colorful Masibus News Letter. The staff strength started growing and
"Professionalism At All Levels" was introduced.
With the introduction of professionalism through Human Resource Development,
Technical Training and Profit Centre based accounting came the natural
resistance when individual comfort levels were disturbed.
Now with the settling down period in progress, the companies will no doubt limb
to higher levels of performance and excellence. As Masibus now spreads its wings
over all the neighboring countries, the foreign exchange earnings from export of
Masibus instruments this year shall be higher than the foreign exchange outflow
for the purchase of Foreign Agency items.
It is noteworthy that throughout the life of the company, through ups and owns,
one thing however has remained constant - "Highest Ethical Standards".
To be with Masibus means different things to various persons:
• To the employee: Proud to be working with Masibus.
• To the customer: Assured of good quality and service.
• To the Vendor: Assured of timely payments.
• To the banker: An excellent account.
• To the competitors: A formidable opponent.
• To the industry: A one stop shop for Instrumentation Projects and Products.
Mr Sanjeev Chakraborty – General Manager - Marketing
When I joined Masibus after leaving Godrej, I wanted to pursue a career in a
company building process instrumentation which was my core subject. Being in
Masibus, I have liked the culture which promoted innovation, customer
satisfaction and to have faith in people.
Non-hierarchical, informal and challenging culture during the previous years
enticed me to give out the best and have an ownership culture towards the
company.
At the end of the day all human beings are seeking the same goal – being happy.
And I am happy being at Masibus and contributing to company’s progress.
Mr.Tushar Jani – Regional Manager
Masibus is truly a MNC, with professional approach, in pace with technology,
adapting the best prevailing industrial practices & changing with times. It has
been a pleasure to be a part of a decade long growth of Masibus. We at Masibus
can surely spread our wings to global market in coming times.
Mr.Rajendra Oza –Manager - Production
I joined Masibus in 1992 as a Testing Engineer & today I am the proud Production
Manager of this multi crore organization. In professional career, everyone sees
growth in terms of money, fame, satisfaction and pace with technology. The
success of all above depends on both the employer and the employee. At Masibus,
the work culture is very supportive in terms of transparency, training of its
employees, space for implementing one’s creative ideas, remuneration and
recognition of efforts. |
